Data collection for admins

As an admin, you set up the reporting project, decide who fills in what, and review the data before you export the report.

  1. Go to Projects and create a new project.
  2. Choose the reporting flow, for example ESRS.
  3. Optionally, choose an organisational structure. Palau then creates one report per unit.

Palau takes a moment to build the project. It shows as loading in the list until it’s ready.

A report is organised into topics, sub-topics and data points. Data points can be narrative text, numbers, yes or no answers, or tables. Use the filters to narrow the list by status, owner or data type.

Assign one or more owners to each data point. Owners who are contributors see their data points in their own workspace. See data collection for contributors.

Every data point has a status:

  • Not started
  • No data, Partial data, Data available, Need information or Drafting
  • In review
  • Completed

Only completed data points count as done. The report dashboard shows progress across the report.

You can omit a data point, a sub-topic or a whole topic, with a reason. Omitted items are hidden and don’t count towards progress. If your project has a DMA, applying its results does this for you.

  • Leave comments on a data point to ask questions or give feedback.
  • Open a data point’s activity to see who changed what, and view earlier versions of its value.

Auto-population fills in data points from your files:

  1. Choose the files to use from the Vault, or upload new ones.
  2. Choose which disclosures each file applies to.
  3. Wait for the job to finish, then review each suggested value and approve or reject it.

Approving a value also attaches the files it’s based on as evidence.

Each sub-topic has a disclosure: the narrative text for the report. You can write it yourself or generate it with AI from the sub-topic’s data points. If a data point changes afterwards, Palau tells you to update the disclosure.

Export the full report to Word or Excel.
